Do I Need a Permit to Build a Bunkie?

David Fraser explains that a building permit is not required for a structure occupying less than ten square metres (108 square feet), based on the Building Code Act, 1992. More info at Ontario Building Code Act, 1992, S.O. 1992, c. 23. Most of our bunkies are under 108 sq. ft.

We always advise you to check with your municipality and zoning by-law regulations as they differ depending on where you live in Ontario, BC and each province in Canada. This is a phone call to your local planning department.

*When talking to your municipality, please reassure them that the Bunkie Life bunkies are not tiny homes and there is no plumbing.
